Hi, I'm Trisha DeHall and let me introduce myself. I have been in the colon cleansing and the body detoxing profession for more than 25 years and am a member of the International Association of Colon Hydrotherapy. I am also a Master Certified Personal Trainer and my husband Rick and I own Fit Body Fitness Center where we specialized in weight loss, exercise and fitness. I also have a Masters in Nutrition. Here is a little information I have put together for you about Colon Cleansing also know as Colonics, Colon Hydrotherapy, Colon Irrigation and High Enemas.
What Is Colon Cleansing?
Colon Cleansing (also known as colon hydrotherapy, colonics, high enemas or colon irrigation) is a gentle purified water washing of the large intestine to clean and remove built up fecal matter. The client lies on a specially designed, highly sterilized table and with a colon cleansing machine, water is run very slowly (gravity-fed) into the colon. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, the water is released. To insure maximum sanitation, only disposable water lines and applicators are used.

How Do The Intestines Get Out Of Shape?
Everything we put in our mouth touches and effects the walls of the stomach, small intestine, and colon. When these substances or their by-products are toxic, they damage the intestinal wall and cells, intoxicate the nerves and glands, and can be absorbed through the walls of the colon into the blood and lymph system and ultimately to the cells and tissue.
Colon Cleansing (colon hydrotherapy, high enema or colon irrigation)?
Here at Fit Body Detox clients receive Colon Cleansing treatments during a period of life-style change or as a preventive measure. A number come in during a fast, a cleansing program, a liver and/or gallbladder flush, or recovering from an accident or surgery. Athletes have opted for colon cleansing to improve metabolic efficiency.
Another group manifests symptoms of intestinal distress; constipation, carbohydrate indigestion, diarrhea, gas, bloating, hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome or parasites. Many clients may have skin conditions such as shingles or eczema. or the inability to loose weight. A number of clients are immune-compromised with lupus, MS, arthritis, cancer, chronic fatigue, Epstein-Barre, candida, infections, colds or influenza.
The Colon’s Role In Health
A healthy colon is essential to an efficiently working digestive system and overall good health. When one segment of your digestive system isn’t working correctly, it can interfere with the overall process of breaking down food and removing waste from the body.
For example, when your colon is not functioning as it should, stool can become too hard and constipation may result. Constipation can leave you feeling uncomfortable and bloated. It can also cause anal fissures and hemorrhoids.
The opposite can also occur. If water isn’t absorbed in the colon, diarrhea can develop. Diarrhea can lead to a loss of electrolytes, such as sodium, magnesium, and potassium. An imbalance in electrolytes can cause problems, such as dehydration, irregular heartbeats, and muscle weakness.
Leaky Gut Syndrome
When toxic matter and undigested food, collected in the intestines as a result of autointoxication, are absorbed from the bowels into the bloodstream, the result is a recognized medical condition known as“leaky gut syndrome.”
The undigested food molecules act as antigens, foreign substances that provoke an immune reaction. Many of these antigens are similar in structure to normal body components, and the antibodies produced to fight them can destroy healthy tissues. Recent studies suggest this immune reaction contributes to, or may cause, rheumatoid arthritis and other degenerative diseases.
(a disease characterized by great muscular weakness), and some forms of meningitis, according to Patrick Donovan, N.D.
Toxins that enter the bloodstream from the colon also burden the liver, circulatory system, lymphatic system, and excretory organs such as the lungs and kidneys. Because the liver plays such a vital role in clearing the blood of toxins, any impairment of liver function may aggravate the damage already done by bowel toxemia. At Fit Body Detox Colon Cleansing we have many education materials that can help you with all you digestive issues. To learn more about "Leaky Gut Syndrome" click here.
Conditions That May Be Benefited By Colon Cleansing
“Colon irrigation (colonics) releases toxins, cleanses the body, stimulates the immune system, and aids in restoring the pH balance in the body,” says Connie Allred, President of the American Colon Therapy Association. Although this statement has not been proven, clients testimonies have been positive as to the effects of colon cleansing.
Many clients have reported that Colon cleansing has helped with: (but please remember that everyone is different and you may not experience these benefits)
MAKING THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM MORE EFFECTIVE
As the colon is cleansed, it pushes waste through your system, clearing the way for good nutrient absorption. A clean colon from a colon detox allows waste to pass easily.
MAINTAIN REGULARITY AND PREVENTS CONSTIPATION
Constipation — especially when it's chronic — causes a sluggish digestive response, which in turn leaves waste in the system longer. This increases the likelihood of certain conditions and irritations, such as hemorrhoids and varicose veins.
Releasing the toxins from your body is rejuvenating because it refocuses the energy usually used for forcing waste through your intestines to other parts of your body. People who have undergone colon detoxification say they have better blood circulation, more restful sleep, and a boost in energy.
INCREASE THE BODY'S ABSORPTION OF VITAMINS AND NUTRIENTS
A colon that's cleansed allows water, vitamins and nutrients to be absorbed into the bloodstream, creating an unobstructed path for essential nutrients to filter into your body.
Poor diet and ineffective vitamin absorption can cause you to become distracted and lose your concentration. The buildup of mucous and toxins in your colon can keep your body from getting what it needs to function, even if you eat a consistently healthy diet. Cleansing the colon with a detox diet can be the difference between feeling alert and not being able to focus. This has far-reaching ramifications for work, your relationships, and your overall health.
KICK-STARTS WEIGHT LOSS
Foods lacking in fiber move through the digestive tract at one-quarter the pace of high-fiber choices. This slow-moving food produces excess mucous that literally sticks to the intestinal walls, weighing the intestinal tract down with pounds of decaying fecal matter. Colon cleansing has the potential to aid weight loss; some people claim to have lost up to 20 pounds over the course of a month. The average human colon weighs about four pounds empty and can hold up to eight meals' worth of food before digestion finally occurs. A colon cleansing can result in significant weight loss and kick-start your metabolism, as well as refocus your attention on better food choices and whole-body wellness.
DECREASE RISK OF COLON DISEASES
All the toxins that you eat, drink, breathe, and absorb through your skin end up processed by your gastrointestinal system, kidneys, and liver. If they're not forced from your organs as quickly as possible, they can wreak havoc on your body's systems. By releasing stagnant body waste, you reduce the causes and the risk of polyps, cysts and cancerous growths in your colon and gastrointestinal tract. You must have regular bowel movements to sustain a healthy body.
MAINTAIN PH BALANCE IN THE BLOODSTREAM
Foods that cause colon blockages are acid-forming — particularly high-protein diets without enough fiber. This leads to general malaise in the body. The colon's tissue eventually becomes inflamed, reducing its ability to do its job, which is to allow only water, minerals and vitamins to pass into the bloodstream. If yeasts, molds, fungus, bacteria, parasites or fecal material enter the bloodstream and connective tissue, the body's pH will be thrown out of balance.
IMPROVE WHOLE-BODY WELL-BEING
Ridding the colon of waste and toxins by releasing layers of colon buildup can lead to feelings of lightness, increased energy, and overall good health.
MAY HELP TO RE-ESTABLISH REGULAR BOWEL MOVEMENTS
By restoring muscle tone and normal peristalsis. According to Dr. Collins, as the squeezing action of peristalsis moves the blood and lymph in the region of the colon, the cells lining the colon excrete toxins and waste products into both the colon and bloodstream for elimination. Colon cleansing may also help rid the body of certain types of parasites.
Uninvited Guest - Parasites In You?
Parasitic infections cause a tremendous burden of disease in both the tropics and subtropics as well as in more temperate climates. Of all parasitic diseases, malaria causes the most deaths globally. Malaria kills approximately 1 million people each year, most of them young children in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), which have suffered from a lack of attention by the public health community, include parasitic diseases such as lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, and Guinea worm disease. The NTDs affect more than 1 billion people—one-sixth of the world's population—largely in rural areas of low-income countries. These diseases extract a large toll on endemic populations, including lost ability to attend school or work, retardation of growth in children, impairment of cognitive skills and development in young children, and the serious economic burden placed on entire countries.
However, parasitic infections also affect persons living in developed countries, including the United States.
